Transforming an existing set of buildings into a dining and shoppping destination was the design brief for the project along the pacific coast. The buildings were being used as business park and the developer had the vision to bring new life to it by replacing the old use with new cafes, delis, clothing stores, ice cream stands, and restaurants. The buildings themselves were well designed and laid out around a central court, allowing for the easy introduction of outdoor dining.
New paths and dining terraces were introduced around the buildings, creating better pedestrian flows and improving access. New doors and storefronts are also introduced, allowing for additional, individual retail units to be introduced into the existing footprint.
The planning department was very invovled in the design and approval process of the project. We had to work closely with the architectural review board to make sure the integrity of the existing buildings was respected. Approval was unanimously granted upon the completion of the projects desing, with the local community very excited about the projects opening.
